WIWS: Getting our Pink on

Sunday, December 15, 2013

Ah, Gaudete Sunday...  One of the only Sundays of the year when pink is liturgically appropriate!  Cecilia would be set every day with her wardrobe, but John Paul and I needed a little more advance planning...

Just ignore my awkward posture, ok?
Even Father was impressed with our liturgical wardrobe!

Cecilia's in her Easter dress and a 12-18 month Janie & Jack cardigan (consignment sale find FTW).  John Paul is rocking his incredible Vineyard "salmon" pants that my sister found on super clearance at Marshall's.  And I'm in my very favorite eShakti skirt that is reeeeeally only appropriate for summer, but it's the closest I had to rose!

After a killer night with more than 10 wakings from the babies (combined, not individually thank goodness...) I'm amazed I was able to get through Mass at all, since we all slept in a bit and I didn't have time for breakfast, let alone coffee.  But now the babies are napping and John Paul and Cecilia are doing a craft (Nativity Sticker Scrambles, definitely a winner) so I have a few minutes of freedom.

John Paul got a new Catholic Children's Bible that someone gave to my sister, and that kept him busy for most of Mass.  I think my absolute favorite part was how much he absolutely loves the book of Isaiah right now, and he just about peed his pants with excitement when the first reading today was ALSO from Isaiah!!!  Other than that, their behavior wasn't *too* bad (until after Mass when John Paul tried to set up the rope up front so that nobody could move onto the altar...), and Father invited himself over to give us the Epiphany house blessing, so clearly even from the front row we didn't convince him that we're too crazy for him to visit!

I so hope you all are having a wonderful Advent, and recognizing any joy in your life amidst the calm preparation you're making for the birth of Christ.  Mary has been posting great reflections every day - check them out on her blog if you haven't been reading it!

Linking up with Fine Linen & Purple, with Eva guest-hosting this week - check out more outfits!

    1. When I remember, I get pretty excited! It's easy during Advent because the kids have been talking about the pink candle since we got the wreath out :P

    1. He always corrects me to tell me they're "salmon" - let's not kid ourselves, they're pink :P

    2. Reminds me of a boy I know (you know this story, Rosie!) whose boys' soccer team jerseys were neon pink. We're talking screaming fuchsia here. But no, he insisted, they were light red. Uh huh.

  3. Oh, my boys would be so jealous of those pants! They've been a bit bummed that there isn't much in their wardrobe to dress liturgically for Advent! Thank you so much for the link. I'm just sort of winging it as I go but I'm so humbled and glad if it can help someone else!

    1. You've got to make them all purple bow ties or something, then they'll be set for Advent AND Lent!

  5. As I put on my purple shirt today I realized I wasn't being entirely liturgically appropriate ... oh well! I have a pink shirt but it doesn't look so great on my postpartum figure. :-P LOVE John Paul's salmon pants! I have a feeling my husband wouldn't let me get anything like that for our boys so I will live vicariously through your son, ha!

    1. Thanks! I love how much easier baby wrangling is in longer skirts :)

  7. Ten times? What the heck is going on with those babies? Teeth? Please tell them that Grandma would like them to sleep through the night tonight. Thank you. (Yeah, well, why not try?)

  8. Your little man is rocking the salmon! And I love Cecilia's sweater...and your skirt...I pretty much love it all. Can I ask, are you wearing boot socks? I've been wondering if I should give those a try.

  9. You all look wonderful, but the gold medal goes to John Paul. Because…those pants…are what I dream of my guys wearing…and he rocks them.

  10. You all look adorable! And I just read through your most/posts and could probably ignore all the ironing I need to get done tonight by just reading everything here :)

  12. Ten times up? I'd be a zombie. I love your liturgically correct outfits. John Paul's pants kill me, and it's so funny that he calls them salmon. Also, Cecelia fits in a 12-18 mo cardigan?? Grace the giant wore a (one size too big, but she insisted) 5t cardi yesterday.

  13. You didn't tell everyone that Cecilia was pretending to fart in this picture. Hence the gleeful grin.
