48/52: A Colonial Vacation

Saturday, December 9, 2017

Whew, that was exhausting!! We headed to Williamsburg for vacation on Monday after we found an awesome homeschool deal for Great Wolf Lodge. We had just finished studying the Revolutionary War so it was perfect timing to visit Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Jamestown. We managed to see *most* of what we wanted to see, and spent lots of time in the hotel water park. However, long drives and lack of sleep obviously took their toll, because the incessant whining from the 5-and-under crowd put a little bit of a damper on things. Luckily we only live a few hours away, so I'm sure we'll head back in a year or two.

We lived in Williamsburg for two years after getting married, while Andrew finished law school. However, we were so poor and working a million jobs (and then had a fussy, high-needs baby) that we really never took advantage of all that the area has to offer! It's nice to have the kids' history studies as an impetus to take advantage of the rich historical heritage of our state!
