We received a devotional in the mail from Christian Focus, and the artwork is just lovely! Psalms for my Day contains excerpts from the psalms in the Bible, along with a quick prayer and devotion for each. Interestingly, the text in the book does not come from one translation of the Bible, but from the late Alec Motyer's personal translation from the original Hebrew. Because of that, many of these psalms might seem new or unfamiliar to you or your child. If your child isn't used to thinking of God as "Yahweh" this could be particularly confusing! I think it's helpful to use it as a teaching moment, and perhaps compare the translation in the book to the translation in your own family Bible.

It's not a big secret that I'm not a huge fan of screens. I have trouble learning from them, I've got at least one child who gets addicted FAR too easily, and we just generally try to limit screen time for all the kids. So I probably never would have chosen to use a reading program that was screen-based. But... Reading Unlocked is actually working for us!

Meatless Meal: Chickpea Burgers

Wednesday, April 8, 2020

Need a meatless meal idea that uses some of the beans you might have stocked up on? This is a Friday favorite at our house! Reminiscent of falafel, but with a texture that's a bit more kid-friendly, and no frying necessary. We love these chickpea burgers with feta cheese, bell peppers, homemade tzatziki sauce, and flatbread!

I've got pictures to walk you through each step, and you can scroll down for the complete recipe.

Gardening for Beginners: Seeds & Seedlings

Tuesday, April 7, 2020

Congratulations! You've built your beds, decided what to plant, and you're finally ready to actually get things planted!

But... How? Do you need seeds? Is it better to buy plants that have already been started? Is it time to spend hundreds of dollars building a huge greenhouse???

Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

One Homeschool Week

Monday, April 6, 2020

I've had a lot of requests for "a day in the life" post to show how we homeschool, but it hasn't made any sense to me because every day is so different! But when Lea requested a "week in the life" post, that made more sense! So here we go...

Gardening for Beginners: What Shall I Plant?

Thursday, April 2, 2020

One of the most frequent questions I field is people asking me what they should plant in their garden. And honestly? I can't really tell you what to plant without knowing a few things...
