It's hard to find unique gifts when you've got a large family, particularly for younger kids. We already have practically everything we can fit in our house, and we often have hand-me-down toys and clothes so we don't need many new things for each subsequent child. Sometimes, though, it's nice to have something new and special just for a younger child, something the older children have never experienced.
The video began with a piece of art Peter had made, which I took a picture of and sent to the people at CrossTimber. Peter was already absolutely delighted to see something he had made in the video, and couldn't believe they had used it! The first five minutes of the video were nearly nonstop giggles from him, as he interacted with the video, talking back to Benjamin the pencil, and almost losing it completely when the rocket blasted off and knocked over items all over the virtual bedroom. All the kids were laughing!
As the video continued, Peter learned about the origin and meaning of his name, met some silly and friendly characters, and got a special letter delivered to him that was written by Mom and Dad! He could not believe that his name was all over the video, and gasped every time he found it hidden in the background. I could tell he felt incredibly special having this video made just for him, and the kids keep asking when we can watch the Peter Damian Show again. Edith wants to know when we'll watch the Edith show!
Talking to other parents of large families, it seems that we're not the only ones who can struggle to find good gifts for our younger children. The Amazing Name video can be delivered as a DVD, or a downloadable file, which means it doesn't have to take up any physical space if you have limited room! And there are other personalized gifts available on the CrossTimber website if you'd like to get a personalized plaque, mug, or music box.
After watching the video, Peter was so excited to complete some activity pages based on his name. We were sent several that could work for a variety of ages, and printed the ones that would work best for Peter. He couldn't believe there was MORE for him than just the video!
I think my favorite part of this experience was how incredibly delighted Peter was! The other kids enjoyed watching the video as well, but it was so very special for sweet Peter, and the absolute perfect gift for him. I asked him what his favorite part of it was and he said, "No parts! I liked all of it!" (Then after his sister said she liked Mr. Owl, he said he liked Zeke, the shooting star)
