I've heard great things about Reading Eggs for years, but never took the plunge since we had such early readers. But with Peter still not reading fluently, despite the multiple other reading programs we had tried out, I figured maybe this would be the key to reading success? We got a free one-year trial of Reading Eggs from Blake eLearning Inc, and WOW, it is packed with amazing resources!!

With our 5-year-old, Peter, still not reading fluently (normal! I know! But out of the ordinary for our kids so far.), I was interested in trying out MaxScholar, for their MaxScholar Orton-Gillingham Software.

While we had a lot of technical difficulties at first, once the updates to the program went through, Peter and I both had a much easier time making this work. Here's what we liked, and what didn't work for us.

It's not a big secret that I'm not a huge fan of screens. I have trouble learning from them, I've got at least one child who gets addicted FAR too easily, and we just generally try to limit screen time for all the kids. So I probably never would have chosen to use a reading program that was screen-based. But... Reading Unlocked is actually working for us!
