3/52: Snow Week!
Wednesday, January 23, 2019
I've said it before and I'll say it again, having kids who can get themselves dressed for snow is AMAZING. We got a decent amount of snow last Saturday/Sunday and it stayed on the ground for a good week, which meant extra outside time for all the kids because they could not get enough of playing in the snow! They spent a fair amount of time eating snow/sucking on icicles, because of course, but they also did a decent amount of sledding (need to purchase real sleds one of these days...), building "snow forts", and making "snow slides" on various hills in the woods.
All the high-water snow pants in the top pictures have now been replaced by clearance snow pants in the proper sizes, so I think we'll be a little more prepared if we get another good snow this year. I'm hoping for one more good storm!
By about day 6 of the snow, it was looking a little worse for the wear, but the kids were still having a blast! Edith was frustrated that it wasn't quite as edible as on the first couple of days, but she still managed to scoop up a fair amount before needing to come inside after 10 minutes. All the other kids spent anywhere from 2-5 hours playing in it every day last week though, so I'm going to name "Snow" as our winter MVP. SUPER-thankful that we have a dryer in the mud room, so that everybody could just come inside, throw their gear in the dryer, warm up by the wood stove, and then head back out an hour later. They even found out that it had stayed cold enough for the pond to freeze, so there's been lots of "ice skating" happening on it. Now that everything is mostly melted, everyone's hoping we get another blanket of it soon.

Where did you find your clearance snow pants? We had the same problem last week, hah!
ReplyDeleteLands End! They're so sturdy we've handed them down for ages :)
DeleteWe are in NYC and want snow so badly! My 4 year old cried on the walk back from Mass 2 weeks ago because the dusting we had gotten melted. In the group shot I thought for a second that Elizabeth was giving us the finger. I think now it's a big icicle. Of course I know she knows nothing of such vulgarities, it would have been an innocent happening. --MariaE
ReplyDeleteHa yes, Elizabeth was just very excited about her icicle :)
