Cecilia, Age 8

Monday, January 28, 2019

It's hard to believe that our sweet Cecilia is 8!!! She painstakingly planned out her birthday menu weeks in advance, only to have things go awry when we ended up getting the siding replaced on the house today, resulting in banging that knocked things off the walls and kitchen shelves, necessitating broken glass cleanup and removal of EVERYTHING from the shelves. Not that I'm stressed about it at all, no not me... I mean, the shelves needed to get cleaned off anyway but today was not the day I planned on doing it!

She's been basking in the glory of basically unlimited art supplies (because those were her major priorities) and is currently off in the woods with her new pocket knife, leading the other kids in some sort of exploring game. I can't get over just how much cooler she is than I was at that age! I think I basically liked to watch TV and play soccer when I was 8, she sews, weaves, draws and paints all day long, reads good books (girl has excellent taste, as you can see below), and climbs every tree she can shimmy up.

She's blazing through her second grade schoolwork and we're all praying fervently that this will be the year she gets over her paralyzing fear of the confessional and actually receives her sacraments (your prayers appreciated, as well!). She's an amazing big sister and is so excited for the new baby, even though she's still disappointed that it isn't twins. She even offered to help clean up the bedroom after the baby's born at home, but we let her know that the adults will take care of that... God bless her for that enthusiasm, though!

Happy Birthday sweet Cecilia! We love you!

  1. I looked up Rattlin Bog. So it's basically a grown-up folk song that problem was inspiration for the Raffi song about the tree in the hole in the ground and the green grass growing all around?

My husband loves loves pineapple. When I was about as pregnant as you are now (or was it right the week of my due date? Did I get pineapple because I was loading up groceries?) He ate half a fresh pineapple at a sitting. There's an old wives' tale that if a pregnant woman eats a whole pineapple at once she will induce labor. I told him HE was trying to induce labor FOR me! Maybe ask Cecilia.... For real, the one lady who tried it says it feels like you are dying from the inside out.

    1. Oh man I love pineapple but it gives me terrible heartburn when I'm pregnant, I'd have to be desperate to try that!

  4. My daughter is about the same age and has the same smile right now - teeth in various stages of growth all over the place! We call it her Jack-o-Lantern smile. (Affectionately, of course.)
