7/52: Burying the Alleluia

Monday, February 18, 2019

Elizabeth came inside the other day with a big rock she had found by the pond, begging to paint it. I put her off because who really wants to deal with THAT at a million weeks pregnant? But then the next day Andrew asked if we were going to bury an "Alleluia" this year, since it was Septuagesima Sunday (when the traddies stop saying the A-word and singing the Gloria, as part of Lent prep. The priest starts wearing purple vestments too!). Guys, he hasn't even been reading any Catholic mom blogs, so I figured I should take this seriously and actually do it for the first time ever.

Soooo we got out the paints from Christmas, only to find that they had mostly dried up (this is what happens when kids open them with their teeth and never actually close them)... But we managed a goopy scene with a Sharpie-d "Alleuia" on top. And Mary Claire was pretty upset that she had spelled it wrong, but we fixed it!

I wanted to get a picture of the actual burial, but it's WAY faster when you have a grown man doing the digging than a bunch of kids with trowels, so Andrew finished before I even got the battery in the camera. Now to remember to dig it up come Easter!

Also: 40 weeks pregnant today. Will THIS be the last belly picture before baby makes his/her arrival???

    1. Oh gosh yes I don't know WHAT was going on with her hair!! She finished writing and Elizabeth said, "Wow, that looks as nice as Mom's handwriting!" And then I saw it and realized she was totally right!!

    1. I got them a rock painting kit for Christmas and as long as they wear smocks, it's not bad! But getting them to remember smocks is tricky... Now I'm thankful the paints dried up ;)

  3. Sounds like a great tradition...I had never heard of it...but kind of hard to do up here in the frozen Maine winter! LOL!!! Mary Claire (love the name!) did such a beautiful job. <3

    1. Bury it under the snow? Definitely trickier in some areas!
