41/52: Bouncy Putty!

Wednesday, October 16, 2019

Okay, check off last week's "science experiment" box because we did one and it actually wasn't terrible! The kids found a recipe for "bouncy putty" in a book, then promptly returned the book to the library and couldn't remember which one it was... Enter Pinterest, where I found roughly one million recipes for bouncy putty, all slightly different. Great. Well, we had Borax and glitter glue, so we tried that one and... It didn't seem to be working. So we added more Borax. And it still wasn't working. So I sent them to the porch with the mixture, more Borax, and some water, and told them they could play with it as long as they wanted and then we would throw it all away.

It actually worked, somehow! Apparently it really just needed to be squished and kneaded for ages, and then they each had their own little lump of somewhat-bouncy "putty" to play with. Well, some has already ended up in the trash because it got left out but... It satisfied the sensory need, it satisfied the "science experiment" need, and none of it stuck to clothing and damaged anything irreparably, so I'll call it a success!

Oh, AND it kept them outside for a nice long time in the middle of the day. All in all, definitely a win!
