My Sunday Best, Volume 68: Kidney Stones and Canning

Sunday, August 20, 2017

Happy Sunday! Elizabeth wanted to be in my picture this week, despite her non-Mass attire... Pattern mixing forever!

Affiliate links below:

Top: Old, H&M
Cardigan: Stitch Fix, but I realized I have a similar one in navy that it looks like H&M still sells (in a long version, too), and it's a nice lightweight open cardigan that has held up really well if you're looking for staples!
Skirt: LulaRoe Cassie, similar

Edith woke up early enough that I figured it would be easier to just run out of the house for a solo early Mass as a little break from the tiny tyrant. It was great! Although it's always so, so weird being alone in the pew...

Friday morning I had to go to the ER for mysterious horrible abdominal pain, which wound up being a very large kidney stone that's on its way out. Saturday morning I was fine, but by the afternoon I was laid up in bed again. I'm hopeful that this stupid thing will be gone soon!! And I'm thankful that I'm not feeling too badly today - there's a LOT to get done to get food laid up for winter, and I don't have time to lie in bed resting!

I've made a couple of small batches of roasted tomato sauce and frozen a couple jars, but I've also been freezing saucing tomatoes in anticipation of a giant stock pot full that we'll be able to can once we borrow a pressure canner (I just don't have room to freeze as much as I'd like to have made in advance, even with TWO extra full-sized freezers!). And Friday night my sister helped me process a bushel of peaches - 10 quarts canned, two trays frozen, and a whole bunch sliced and ready for dessert tonight (peach bars? peach crumble again?). We need to pick all the apples from our one mature tree and sauce them... And the green beans are going nuts, so I've gotta work on those, too! Little by little, we're stocking up for the winter and it feels great!

(This isn't an affiliate link, just a PSA, but if you need canning jars there's a really great sale on the Ball website right now, way cheaper than I've been able to find them in stores, even the pretty blue ones!)

I also cleaned off and reorganized our homeschool book shelf this week, in preparation for our first official day back tomorrow. I'm almost looking forward to winter just because there's a little more rest to be had! But not really... Summer, stay a while!

Your turn!

Post your outfit details & links or not, regale us all with your children's antics, reflect deeply on the readings, or just do a straight picture post - anything goes as long as you actually wore your outfit to church. The link-up is open until Friday, so you've got plenty of time to add your post!

Just a few ground rules before you link up:

1. Please include a photo of what you wore to church this week.

2. Please link back to this post in the body of your post, so your readers know where to find other posts (posts not mentioning "My Sunday Best" or not linking back to this post will be subject to removal).

3. Please visit some other posts in the link-up & leave a nice comment - this is all about affirming each other and building community, not just link dropping :)

4. Make sure the link you add is a link to your specific post or instagram picture (hashtag #mysundaybest and mention me in your caption, @rosiehill425 so I don't miss it!), not just your blog address.

5. Enjoy, and thanks for linking up!
