9/52: Baptized!
Monday, March 4, 2019
Oh hey there baby! So long, original sin!
Lucy got baptized on Saturday and, as usual, we didn't get a single decent picture. I don't really mind, it's just funny how hectic things are every single time! We were all there, dressed, and mostly not disheveled (well, at the beginning. You can see how everybody looked by the end...). And even though Lucy decided to be our first baby to cry through the entire baptism, it was still effective ;)
The moment she was born, almost the first question the kids asked was, "When is she getting baptized???" They were VERY concerned that it happen as soon as possible, so I guess all the reading about baptism that we've been doing for school has sunk in? Andrew wanted to schedule it before Lent but I said NO WAY because I was convinced I'd still be pregnant. Once she was born though, I realized that 11 days was enough time to recover adequately, especially since we don't throw a big baptism party anyway. And this time Lucy's kind godparents had us all over for brunch afterwards, so we really didn't have to do ANYTHING except show up (which is a feat, considering how much hair there is to brush...).
So there we go! We got the baptism in before Lent (although our parish doesn't prohibit baptisms during Lent like some weird parishes, so it wouldn't have mattered but still, sooner is better!), nobody but the baby cried (during the baptism, there may have been some tears beforehand), and now we've got a baby with a squeaky clean soul. Unfortunately it didn't magically make her sleep better, but it never works that way...

I'm always so curious about baptismal gowns! Is there a story behind Lucy's? Or is it brand new? :)
ReplyDeleteWe bought a gender neutral-ish one before John Paul was born, intending to use it for all the kids. Then when we had the twins, I decided we would get a girly one too and just use that for all the rest of the girls and the other one for any boys. So John Paul, Cecilia, Mary Claire, and Peter were all baptized in one gown and Elizabeth, Edith, and Lucy were all baptized in this one :)
DeleteWelcome to the family Lucy. God Bless you all! <3
ReplyDeleteP.S. The pictures are great, thanks for sharing!
Thank you!
DeleteI know from other post you guys lean towards the more traditional Catholicism which is AWESOME, so did you have the Traditional Latin baptism for the lovely Lucy..?? I have had to beg and plead to try to find a priest willing to do a Traditional Baptism for our new little guy, and we have to wait till April because that was the soonest a priest could come from 2 hours away to do it...
ReplyDeleteWe did! John Paul and Cecilia are the only kids who *weren't* baptized using the Old Rite, and thankfully we live in an area with a plethora of priests who are comfortable offering it ❤️ I'm so sorry it's been a struggle for you guys!
DeleteAww, sweet baby and nice family shots! I see that the priest knows the secret of taking photos with children. Keep perfectly still, keep looking at the camera, and keep smiling, because the adults need to be on point for the one photo when the kids all look and smile ;). I haven't learned this lesson well enough myself. It seems every time we take a family photo, in the one shot where the kids are all finally smiling I'm the one looking down to check a kid or talking...
ReplyDeleteThis makes me laugh, you're totally right! He's entirely unfazed by all their antics 😂
