I Hate Pants: Skirts for Summer {7 Quick Takes}

Friday, May 27, 2016

It feels like forever ago that I decided to stop wearing pants... But looking back at the archives, it's only been 3 years! I *do* still have a couple pairs for hiking/muddy gardening/whatnot, but every time I put on a pair of real pants (like, with a zipper), I still spend the entire time wearing the hiking them up, adjusting them, and just generally feeling miserable!

So yes, I'm one of those Catholic women who doesn't wear pants, but you don't see me yelling at the internet, telling them that NOBODY SHOULD WEAR PANTS LEST THEY INSPIRE LUST WITHIN THOSE MEN WHO GOSH DARNIT CAN'T CONTROL THEMSELVES!!! Goodness, people get worked up about pants. Wear pants. Don't wear pants. Whatever.

Anyway, Amanda and I were talking style, and she's decided to try her own "99 days of no pants" challenge - in 2013 some really fun ladies linked up how they wear skirts every day (because it doesn't have to feel like an earth-shattering thing) and we thought it might be fun to try another Pants-Free July Challenge this summer! I'll post more on that next month, but in the event that you're suddenly thinking, "Hey! I'm much more comfortable in dresses and skirts! But finding decent skirts is so hard..."

Well, I've rounded up some of my favorites right here! 6 skirts that will get you through the summer (and more!) without having to wear the same outfit every day.

Links are affiliate links, which means I get a teeny percentage if you buy through them. Thanks!

The Patterned Pencil Skirt

I love this striped pencil skirt from Loft (currently only $30!) - pull-on skirts are such a wonderful thing, and the reviews say this is made of a substantial material that won't cling. A great way to add a bit of interest to an outfit, and easy to pair with a basic top!

The Denim Skirt

This denim skirt from Boden looks just plain perfect - I love the dark wash and the length, and you know it's going to be a workhorse in your wardrobe! I probably wear my denim skirt twice a week.

The Jersey Maxi

There are very few things in life that you can wear that feel like pajamas but are actually suitable for leaving the house (Oh leggings and yoga pants, you try...) - maxi skirts and dresses are literally the most comfortable articles of clothing in my wardrobe! I love the shirring on this one from Loft, plus it's also on sale right now!

The Simple Circle Skirt

This Loft circle skirt ($20!!! I'm so tempted but I already have a similar one in black, and don't need other colors...) comes in multiple colors, including basic black. The wide waistband is perfect for accentuating a waist without digging in, and if you've never been one for tucking shirts, now's your chance!

The Fun Full Skirt

How adorable is this striped skirt from ModCloth? This is the type of skirt that makes me feel like a 50s housewife, and they're just so darned fun to wear!

The Basic Black Skirt

This Pintuck Poplin Skirt from eShakti (also available in navy and periwinkle!) has just enough detail to make it interesting, but still matches everything you'd pair it with! You can't go wrong with a basic black skirt in your wardrobe.

The Wild Card

Is there a particular style you love most, or feel best in? For me, it's the full skirts (with pockets!) - maybe you love maxis! Now that you know what works for you, you don't need to limit yourself to one!

That green skirt... My favorite! Even though I actually have to iron it...

Looking for more sources to find great skirts? I love almost everything eShakti makes, and they're always running sales and putting out high-value coupons (plus most everything has pockets, and they'll automatically customize length based on your height, which is amaaaazing). ModCloth is another one of my absolute favorites! And if you're on a tight budget, ThredUp has a great selection and I've found a lot of gems there (denim skirts especially).

Here's a link to my summary of that Pants-Free July, with pictures of every outfit if you need inspiration.

And I'm linking up with Kelly, because she's awesome and it's Friday!
