5/52: Baby Doll Beards, Roller Flailing, and House Plants

Tuesday, February 9, 2021

Shockingly, Mary Claire has been getting creative again... This time she's using all my post-it notes to create beards and mustaches for the baby dolls (and sometimes for the other kids, as well). I don't love that there are post-it scraps everywhere, but I'll admit that finding those baby dolls on the kitchen counter definitely gave me a chuckle! Apparently they're "Evil Kings," whatever that means. Evil kings must always have goatees, I suppose.

The middle kids got new roller skates and roller blades for Christmas from various grandparents, and we finally had a run of warm-ish (40+ degrees) days. They were ecstatic!!! HOURS spent outside, perfecting their roller-flailing. It's adorable and I'm a huge fan of anything that keeps them outside for long periods of time, particularly in February. They even helped Edith into an outgrown pair of the twins' skates, which are huge on her but she just kind of shuffles along in them and is pleased to be part of the crowd. I looked out the kitchen window on the first day they were skating in earnest to see Cecilia in her crocheted beret, roller blading in the driveway, holding a cat. Peak homeschool, right there.

I have acquired a new houseplant on a whim, having put in an Aldi Instacart (that referral link gets you $10 off your first order, and it's SUCH a life saver!!) order of essentials and then searching "plants" just to see what they might have... Well, they had fiddle leaf figs for only $10! So obviously I needed one, considering my amaryllis is just about dead and ready to be moved upstairs with the other going dormant/being overwintered houseplants/outdoor plants. Listen, it's not a problem until someone has to stage an intervention, right? House plants are a universal good!

  1. You can never have too many houseplants. Or at least that is what I tell my husband on a regular basis. LOL

  2. If I had my druthers, I'd buy a new houseplant every week in winter. I just need something green and when everything is covered under currently like 16" of snow that's not going anywhere, where else am I gonna get it? :)

    1. I am looking around my house, trying to find places where we could put hanging baskets in order to fit more house plants 🙈
