Trying out the photography challenge over at Clan Donaldson this week... The theme is "hats or scarves."
So we just got a *real* camera for Christmas and I've been using what little spare time I have to figure out how to use it. So far I'm REALLY good at... knowing that I shouldn't use the flash and that manual focus is better than auto focus. I've explored other settings, but when I've got a toddler who's only going to stay still for so long? I put it on auto, focus it myself, and see what I can get!
Here's Cecilia looking like, 5 years older than she is. Her Princess Leia hat is one of her favorite things right now and she wears it ALL the time. Like, to the doctor's office for her ENTIRE 2-year well visit. And for a nap.
She came upstairs wearing it yesterday and told me, "I cwied and cwied."
"Cecilia, why did you cry and cry?"
"Um becuzz I'm a pwincess."
"No, I'm a princess!" whined John Paul.
"I'M A PWINCESS I'M A PWINCESS!!!" she sobbed, jumping up and down and yelling at him.
So yeah, that's the hat.
1. Your child is ridiculously beautiful
ReplyDelete2. That princess Leia hat is the best idea I've ever seen. Where did you get it?
3. I am in awe that you're using manual focus. Exposure setting, no problem. Aperture, pice of cake. Even ISO settings are slowly starting to gel for me. But I cannot, cannot, cannot get clarity like you have when I manual focus. You're going to have to share your tips.
Thanks for linking up! Hope to see you next week.
Thanks! My sister made the hat - maybe she'll comment and let you know where she found the pattern. The braids were definitely on the tricky side, but the hat's gotten so much wear that it's totally worth it!
DeleteMy manual focus tip is... Take a billion pictures changing the focus slightly every time and probably a couple of them will be in focus? I have no idea!
I was going to comment the same as Cari. I always have the stupid lens on auto focus because it takes so long for me to get it "perfect" that someone always moves! I bow to you and your photography prowess.
DeleteMy autofocus takes too long to focus and is really loud and obnoxious and wrong most of the time so I gave up... I feel like it's probably not supposed to be like that!
DeleteShe is beautiful!!! Look at those big eyes!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree with Cari, I have a really hard time with manual focus!! What's the secret??
Right? I have to start taking pictures of the other kids more often, but she's so photogenic that it's hard to resist!
DeleteHer eyes totally pop, beautiful, and the texture on the hat really come through.
ReplyDeleteToddler arguments, really, about as reasonable as adult arguments, only cuter.
And usually with more crying than adult arguments :P
DeleteShe's adorable, and that story made me snort :)
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteLovely little lady!
ReplyDeleteBeing two is really hard work, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteThat hat is the greatest thing I have ever seen!!! She is one adorable pwincess.
ReplyDeleteAnd we've got Yoda, too (on my "About" page - my sister's pretty much the best for making those hats!
DeleteOh my goodness, love the hat! And my toddler's constant movement is my excuse for not experimenting with manual focus yet, but you may have just inspired me to start trying :)
ReplyDeleteHah she stays still more than the others, which is why I *can* use manual focus on her and just don't take a lot of pictures of my son, Mr. "run-towards-the-camera-shouting-cheeeeese"
DeleteThat picture is so gorgeous that it made me gasp when I opened your blog. And not because of Cecilia. It's just a terrific shot. Wow!
ReplyDeleteAdorable photo...what a great capture of the her eyes!
ReplyDeleteOh she is so CUTE! And that hat?! So awesome!!! I'm going to have to pin it for an idea to make later. As soon as my kids are old enough to appreciate Star Wars. I wonder if there are any Ewok hats out there too?? Did you make it?
ReplyDeleteMy sister made it - I think she found the pattern (and a yoda hat pattern) on Pinterest. My older kids at 2 and 3.5 love Star Wars already because of board books & lego star wars - you can breed the appreciation early :P
DeleteThat hat is the cutest and not to mention the cuteness of your little girl.
ReplyDeleteI love that photo. Her smirk is incredibly well-developed for a two-year old!
ReplyDeleteI love the hat and she is so cute in it. When the light is bright enough, I just use the sports setting on our camera. It's gerat at catching all the action.
